GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE BUOWL

BUOWL is an online service designed to provide resources for students and teachers of writing in this school. Think of this website as a resource and practice book you can consult when you need information on writing when you are working on your own. BUOWL is not a replacement for classes or teachers, but rather a supplement to your class work.

Writing guides provide you with tips on grammar, punctuation, spelling and other problem areas in English such as pronoun agreement, subject-verb agreement and sentence fragments. For these guides there are also interactive exercises. You can study the guides and do the associated exercises.

Guides on paragraph structure and essay types help you with organization and style problems. With those guides you revise essay format and different essay types. There are also sample essays for you to see a model.

Writing research papers is a section you will need in the second semester of the academic year when you are working on your research paper. Paraphrasing, quoting, summarizing are skills you will need in your prep year as well as later in the university.
